Joe, I am having difficulty coming up with something new to add or say about your work. But, if this is a test piece, then I am really going to enjoy seeing the “special” one that you have in waiting. Again, a wonderful piece and you did a good job of bringing out the beauty of the wood.

Joe, did you get that wood from me? I am going to have to watch what goes out the door. Just kidding, come back for another load. I am still cleaning the shop.

I see a pleasing curve with no flat spots. The neck and top/opening are well protortioned to the body. I would like to see the bottom a tiny bit flatter. If you had carried the curve past the foot it appears that the bottom would be “pointed”.

I hope you canted the Waterlox into a bunch of small baby food jars because the remainder of the can will turn to jelly and be unusable.

A beautiful piece of turning and the curve you have chosen is so unique. How do you decide on the curve? Is it a freehand drawing or patterns are available readymade?

Very nice grain, glad you tried Waterlox, it works on any wood and does’nt screw up the grain, the more coats the more pop you get. Expensive stuff though. Very beautiful piece, interesting how the grain is, but very nice no matter how you look at it.

Sharad, All my pieces are freehand. I usually start with a concept in my mind, but the piece rarely ends up there. They all sort of just evolve into their own.

Trifern, truly another piece of art work. I like how the small base sets the vase off. Is it stable, in that, will the design support a couple of silk flowers and still remain stable?

I ask as I am going to procure a lathe this spring. I have done a lot with case work and with my time on LJ, I think I am going to give the turning a try.

Norm, the vase is stable and will support dried or silk floral arrangements. Although it was designed to hold nothing more than a person’s attention. Thanks for the kind words.
