This is my first wooden mallet. I wish I could have made it with something a little bit more interesting but where I live I don’t have much choice. Used some red oak left over from a previous project, and a bit of maple for my handle wedges from a maple tree that came down at my in-laws. Nothing too fancy but the price was right. I laminated two 1/2” pieces for the handle so I could make a little shoulder for the head to sit on, and I figure it will just add to the strength of it. I filled the head with steel BBs for a bit of heft. When the glue dried, I finished it with some boiled linseed oil.

I don’t know what I’ll use it for but I am certain it will end up one of those things i won’t be able to live without. Thanks for looking.

Nice job and I find myself using mine more than I thought as a persuader.

Kinda Thor-looking there, Joe. If you don’t find a use for it, I’m sure I could, though your byline seems to indicate it’ll find a good home in your shop. Nice work.

Have your say...
