Variation on earlier design

Last time I did this tray top or valet box design, I had 2 upper drawers. This time I made only one for the top drawer & did it with a segment, figured it would have more space for “stuff” than 2 separate drawers. Overall size is about 9 1/2 wide x 6 high x 4 1/2 deep. 3 are Cherry & 1 walnut. Pulls are either walnut or spalted maple. Finished with 4 coats of Arm-R-Seal.

Including a couple of in process photos on the walnut piece. After cutting the block to the outside shape, I cut off both the front & back & then start working on the drawers (there are other approaches). I also have been making complete cuts, vertical or horizontal, (in this case across the width) as I’ve found I get a tighter fit when glued up…creates a lot of parts though. Again, not to suggest that other methods will not work or perhaps be better.

Comments welcomed, thanks for your time.

I just love how these turn out. They look so awesome. Building a valet like this and the ones that Blackie makes are on my to do list once it warms back up and i can get in the shop.

Thanks for the comments guys…
PoohBaah – while I am honored to be mentioned in the same sentence as Blackie, he’s light years ahead of me.
