This sculpted rocking chair is built from 2’’ Canadian Black Walnut and Rosewood accented with Ebony plugs. This is a small version ( 5’ 5’’ – 5’ 8’’ ).

The leg/headrest design borrows from the form of Sam Maloof design, with legs extending like horns and with a more stylized bottom curve to the headrest but still using a coopered headrest to keep the grain lines matched to the seat and arms.

For wood selection I used a beautiful piece of Rosewood, to highlight the flexible back supports & inlayed seat.

Features
- Grain matched Rosewood form fitting flexible back braces fronts
- coopered headrest
- exposed Maloof joinery
- hand carved seat, arms, and joints….. Actually the entire chair!

You can follow the build of this chair and my students chair on my blog ( picture heavy ) - Check it out-

Great workmanship on the rocker. I have a set of plans. If I can get all the projects on my list done. So I have room to build. Excellent work.

Another beauty – I like your subtle changes to the leg/headrest. Nice flow. And that wood… wow.
