This is a bed that I completed in February 2006. It is built using pine wood and has 14 drawers. Two of the drawers, the centers, are five feet deep. The nightstands are a floating style each having a drawer and are attached to the side of the bed, no floor support.
The five foot center drawers were the hardest to work out. The bottom drawer rides on a piece of ¼” plywood with solid wood sides. I lacquered it so that the drawer would have a nice slick surface to slide on. The top drawer has a ½” bottom that protrudes past the sides. This ½” bottom sides in a hardwood strip with a 9/16 dado cut in. This is also lacquered and waxed up so that it slides better. To keep the top drawer supported when it is pulled out all the way, the ½” bottom is cut about a foot deeper than the drawer itself.
Here are some building pictures from my archives.

This was a challenging project I am sure. But it makes great use of the essentially dead space underneath the bed.
This is a nice project.

Great design and project. Well worth the effort. Great use of space and nowhere for the dust bunnies to hide.
