Built an easel for my Dad this Christmas (as in I built it Christmas Eve). Mahogany and Maple. Tried to do so without any mechanical fasteners or hardware. I cheated a little with a pin nailer to hold the pivot base in place as the glue cured. The joints are all half lap or bridal joints, whichever way you want to call them. I cut all the joints using a Freud Box Joint blade set on my table saw. Nice smooth flat bottom notches. Haven’t put a finish on it yet, possibly an oil rubbed finish.
