Here’s my version of RAH’s hors d’oeuvre tray shown here
My Version
Wood: a piece of cedar—the only leftover wood that was wide enough for the trays
I used one of those “hole cutting drill bits” (I can never remember what they are called) for the hole and used the bandsaw to cut the slot. The tray shown at the front of the pile uses a knot-hole “as is”.
I used the palm sander to create a hollowed-out area for the crackers.
Thanks RAH for this great idea.

Very nice Debbie. I assume that they are going into the Not any kind of Knot contest.

Thinking of PaBull’s idea. A little cotton batting with Mercurochrome on it and a slight amount of red lipstick on your thumb’s lower knuckle. Properly presented is a great woodworkers gag. “Look what I did to my thumb at the band saw.” A bit sophomoric but I couldn’t help myself.

lol boys, boys boys lol :)
you are right Grumpy, the tray is really light so would be easy to carry around. It was a lucky find (the cedar)

Looks like you used the knot hole for that first one. Are you going to enter it in the contest?

I like them Debbie.
Changing the subject: if you have cedar scrap, have you ever tried a fish fillet grilled on a cedar plank. Heavenly! Just don’t ever use treated cedar.

We’ve planned on doing that but haven’t yet. I even purchased a cookbook on plank cooking. Not sure why we haven’t actually tried it yet

hahah my daughter looked at the tray, turned it around and then hung the glass that I gave with it upside down in it…
I let them struggle with it for a minute or so and then did a cocktail party role-playing, demonstrating the use.
They love them!
Now to hear what my son thinks—he didn’t get a glass as a clue hahaha

I had and idea for these but I had a thumb hole like for an artist paint pallett as well. I was also going to make mine a bit bigger and the cup hole would fit a plastic dixy cup. this way we could use them for Super bowl parties and for outside BBQ’s trick was finding a finish that would stand up to BBQ and hot wing sauce.

I like the idea of the dixy cup holder… especially since I don’t drink wine and/or use wine glasses.
I think they would be great for picnics and large group get-togethers!
I’ll be watching. Let me know when you post it.
