I decided on December 30th to build my wife a coffee table. 17 days (and numerous 12 hour ones at that), later this is how it turned out. I am pleased with every fit and finish. and the top works flawlessly. She just loves it. Made from Aromatic Red Cedar and Hard Rock Spalted Maple. Approximate size is 48 X 32. Hinge Mechanism is my own design although Several Ideas were had here on Lumberjocks. The top lifts with just 1 finger even with a center piece on top. and the tension springs prevent the top from slamming down. The turn buckles are for fine tuning of the tension. It works well.

I really like your idea of a lift table. Nice work and beautifully done.

Both very interesting and very well executed. I especially like the creative approach to the ‘lift’ – bypassing all of the hinge issues. Nicely Done!

17 days!!! And that included working out the design? Very impressive, and a great looking piece too.
