Dyed Turned Bowls

Project by scott shangraw posted 346 days ago 415 views 0 times favorited 11 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I’m really not much of a wood turner but New Mexico Magazine did a short little blurp in their artist section on my dyed turned bowls.I think it has been over a year since I turned a bowl but this article resulted in a few orders so I had to dust off the bowl gouge and try to remember how to turn. Here is a few on an order I just finished they wanted football team colors there is Miami Dolphins,Cowboys and Oakland A’s the non dyed one is Juniper with turquise. The dyed ones are from box elder then I use the Trans tint dyes in a airbrush to apply,Silver leaf for the Cowboys.
Don’t worry TRIFERN I’m no where in your league with coloring or turning for that matter!!LOL

WOW … I like the middle one the best. I’m envious of your air brush work.

They have a nice flare to them. I like the red & orange interiors as they look mysterious. I like the depth of them too. The natural wood with turquoise has a nice tapered shape to it. I think if you keep making them, you’ll create even more of your own style. Good work.

don’t sell yourself short scott, you GOT a write up and orders to fill rather than building then trying to sell, much easier that way, especially since you know they already like your style. Personally, I love em! Just curious how much do these go for? So much variety, thanks for sharing =)

I love the natural edges. I’ve been wanting to get back into airbrushing. It’s been over 20 years since I’ve done any. I really like the turquoise inlay as well. Congratulations on getting some ink and orders. Thanks for sharing, Scott.

Great job! The color contrasts are very interesting. :-) Box Elder is a nice neutral palette to work with for colouring projects. Bravo!

That middle one , it’s so fantastic. The colors are perfect! That shot looks like a sunrise or sunset on a desert winter. They are all cool, but that middle one is SUPER!
