Hi LJ’s!

This week I want to share with you my first project on the lathe. It’s been almost 3 weeks since I posted the last project, during which I dedicated to celebrating Christmas with my family (I’ve also made some presents in my workshop but I didn’t have the time to record them).

I got a new machine for the workshop (Christmas present from my adorable wife ;D): a Lathe (Axminster AH-1218VS), which I was looking for since a year. I’m very pleased with it, but no I’ve no experience in wood turning so I decided to make a quick and easy project for those how like me, are newbies at this discipline.

I must admit that I’am a remarkable interest too Christopher Nolan’s films (I guess as much as some of you ;)).

So I came with the idea to make the spinning top that Cobb uses like a Totem in “Inception” film. For this project I used a scrap piece of walnut and I’ve finished with cyanoacrylate. Again, you can see how much I use my scroll saw due it’s versatility (in this video I’ve used for resawing a scrap piece of walnut about 30mm thick).

I hope you enjoy this project and the video.

Regards to everyone from Barcelona!

Oh man don’t get me started. The top wasn’t Cobb’s totem, it was Mal’s totem. Cobb’s totem was his wedding ring. Cobb clearly explains that you cannot use someone else’s totem, and any time Cobb is in a dream he has his ring on, and any time he is in the real world he does not have it on. His ring, that is his totem.

... now, just let me pick up my soapbox and be on my way.

Like the top.

Thanks for your clarification. It’s been two years since I watched the movie so I forget some details like this. Anyway, I appreciate that and thanks for leave your comment.

I chuck for your lathe will open up your world…. if you had a chuck you could have made your tops spinning point on the lathe on center and it would have ended up more balanced with a finer point and spin much longer…. I like you top I am just saying this to help others also

Indeed playingwithwood, the chuck is in my “must have” list but I’ll have to wait a little more because we agreed to not spend much money at once. Thanks for leaving your comment and I’m glad you liked my humble top.

Thank you calisdad, I appreciate your support. If you want you can check out my other projects (you’ll find a video in each of them).

Regards!
