I finally got around to turning something for myself. I’ve been interested in the sketching pencil from The Woodturner’s Catalog for a while, but always found other projects in the path. This weekend, I decided to turn one just for me.
It’s in Bocote from my scrap pile, but turned beautifully, and it’s got a great feel for writing. I’ve always used bigger pens, but prefer to write with a pencil. Up to now, I’ve been using my Atlas Pencil, which was among my first turning projects more than a year ago.
Pictures aren’t great, but you can see how big and substantial the pencil is. I really enjoy using it!

Sometimes we need to stop and do a project for ourselves. Good job!
