Window Boxes

Project by crankyrocker posted 353 days ago 220 views 1 time favorited 4 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Here are a couple of window planters I made from birch plywood with poplar trim. The fronts are copper flashing held in place with the trim pieces. I thought it would look great as it weathered. Paint is just exterior house paint. I also drilled 1” holes in each box for drainage.

My wife wants some of these. Any tips on hanging them on the house?

They look great, but I’d worry about birch ply getting wet and exposed to the soil, insects, and elements.

I hung them with large french cleats anchored to the brick. Seemed to work pretty well.
As far as the birch plywood being exposed, I agree. I built these a few years ago and just found the photos. We have since moved to a new house so I am not sure how they’re holding up. If I had it to do over again, I would line the interior with a vinyl liner. Hopefully the drainage holes help them not to hold water at least.
