Sweet, I love Black Oak…the kit thing is a good idea…I had an idea, tell me what you think, to slice up 4 foot sections of logs of different species, sticker the whole sliced up log as it came of the mill back into the rounded log form. Then take two web straps and tighten it all up make a rope handle for the stack and sell it as a woodworkers kit. Ready to load in the back of their pickup. :) Cash and Carry so to speak…
Nice pic…

Nice, good save. So you join the slabs and sell it like that, as a kit?
SawDustnSplinters,
Good idea about the consecutive cuttings with a handle. I sell small book matched sets of walnut burl at craft shows and they move well.

I do a surprising number of projects for other woodworkers , workbenches , table tops , complete kits etc. This particular “kit” contained all the pre-dimensioned pieces for the table-legs and four chairs. I spline all the joints , balance all the natural edges and make sure everything is flat on my large layup table . I also pre-do any mortise and tenon ends that the customer might require . The selling angle to these “kits” is that the customer doesn’t need large or expensive equipment to put together his personal design in solid wood furniture , I do most of the machining ,and they get the bragging rights to the finished piece!

That is a very smart idea, Socalwood, never thought of anything like that. But I like your selling angle and it makes good economic sense. You do most of the work (behind-the-scenes) on your expensively invested in machinery, but they still get the hands-on experience with the assembly without investing as much as you did initially. Yes they get the braggin rights they paid for :) ie..Honey look what I made!! :) But we know the secret and will keep it as such :)

The same guys keep returning so it is like a steady stream of “filler” work that you don’t have to depend on, and it is kind of fun- – -

Hey Rob…once again good thinking…and we could all use a little filler work here and there, especially this Xmas…and perhaps into the New Year…?
Be Well….
