Here are a few pics of the cedar chest I am building. The panels are all in and I have just finished up jointing up the lid. I reinforced the bottom with two diagonals running corner to corner and over lapped them with a lap joint. Planning on using a piano hinge with lid supports to attach the lid, that is unless any one else has any other ideas I could do. I used hard maple for the frame of the chest and aromatic cedar for the panels.
I should have it finished by Christmas and then I am going to move on to my first lathe project, scottb’s eccentric trees.

Nice job. I trying to find some pictures of my first, still existing project. A cedar chest for my sister 45 years ago. This is something that the user will cherish forever.
How thick are the side panels.

Very nice. There is something about Tennessee Red that just gets me going and spikes the motivation, probably the smell and color.

The panels on the side are 3/8” thick. The smell is GREAT! I love the color and aroma cedar has.
