celtic candle holder

We had this idea for an open scroll saw box based on a celtic knot pattern. Ultimately the box became a candle holder. The wood is oak from pallets, the finish is danish oil. We tried to use a dremel to add the over/under effect to the knot. Combined with the scrolling and clean up it was way more effort than expected.

Great job! Would it be any easier to achieve the over/under pattern through careful staining/painting? (Might save you some sanding.) Just a thought – I love the shadow effect when the candle is lit. Thanks for sharing.

Leafherder,

We tried something along the lines of stain as shown in the attached image. This one has a dremeled outline which was hard to really make look right. I think the stain does add to the effect though. A chisel is probably the right answer to make the under /over effect cleanly (we just haven’t developed that skill)
