It’s fun to cram as much stuff as you can into a project and this one had a lot in it. This was an entire home office remodel, but the primary focus of the entire room is this full-wall, horizontal Murphy bed & bookcase combination. From end to end it is around 14 and half feet and top to bottom just over 9 feet tall. The cabinet & bed section takes up 5 and half feet of that height.

The Murphy bed is a full size bed that has been mounted horizontally instead of the typical vertical setup. The face of the bed was made to mirror the right side with four large cabinet doors and eight false drawer fronts. The right side has two large cabinets with adjustable shelves and eight small drawers. The upper portion of the entire unit is five mini 4 foot tall bookcases with adjustable shelves. Almost everything was made from 3/4” plywood and faced with premium pine.

This entire layout replaced my previously posted 2×4 bookcases and gave us another full bed. Opposite this wall is a new desk that I also built to match this unit and I will hopefully post more details about that project soon.

Looks great! Did you end up using one of the hardware kits, or did you piece together your own hardware assortment?

Thanks for sharing!

I used a hardware kit from Wallbed.com and followed their directions almost to the letter. The only modifications that I made was to the very top of the Murphy bed cabinet so that I could accommodate the bookcase that I put on top.

Great idea, very good use of space, and looks fantastic. And Star trek to boot!

Really sharp/functional project. Love the simplicity of lines. May I ask if there are plans available for this anywhere? Best regards from snowbound ERIE, PA.

The finish is just latex paint with a couple of coats of gloss polyurethane. The paint color is midnight blue.

The only plans on paper are for the Murphy bed as supplied by Wallbed.com. Everything else was kind of done along the way so that I could make sure it all fit tightly.
