The "Tea Table", seemed like a good idea at the time.

A very serious collector of Chinese tea collectables commissioned me for a “live edged” mesquite table in order to host his imported “burl” tea service.

Project allowed me to venture outside the lines in creating a live edge piece with inset keys.

In the course of design and re-design as well as build and tweak, I managed to end up with two differing bases for the client. One base was for low floor seating the other with small stools. In the end, after losing the tip of my left thumb, I did manage to just break even.

It did seem like a nice idea at the time.

That is a beautiful table from my favorite wood. Sorry about your injury.

They say that great artists put their blood sweat and tears into their work – I guess you got that covered. Great job. Hope you healed well. Best wishes for a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2015.

Thanks to you all for your kind words. I would’ve posted a pic of the initial thumb wound but thought better of it. Actually got off easy with losing about 10mm of tissue plus the nail with just missing the bone. At least now I can say “I’m not all thumbs”.
