Our old ceramic tile countertop was shot and the thought of regrouting was not pleasant. My wife asked if I could make a countertop to match a cutting board I had made – that provided the inspiration for this project. I used rock maple, cherry, walnut, and padauk. The only problem is now I have to do another to match an adjacent sideboard counter.

Looks good. What did you finish it with?

Three coats of oil-based polyurethane. To date it has seen heavy use and the poly has been very scratch-resistant.
