Amazing work. To me, however, it looks a little bit top-heavy. That is not to sell its beauty short.

I love the burl top. I think the red gum base is a nice match wood wise. You could thin the bowl & lip a bit. The foot and head of the base need to be wider and flared out more to make it proportionate and give it more fluidity in the lines. The rings are a nice added dimension. You could play with the thickness of those too for a whimsical sculptural effect. Beautiful choice of woods! You’re on to creating some nice art!
Good work. Keep on pushing your envelope!

Thanks for the comments. I need to learn more about presenting burls. Agree its looks top heavy but
wanted to make the natural bottom a feature also. As mmh suggests the burl and lip could be thinned down (hate making sawdust out of a burl). Thanks again for the constructive comments.

Bob, how the heck did you sand the bottom of the burl?

Hi TheHarr, the bottom of the burl is in its natural state after the bark has been removed when green.
No need to sand, just a coat of clear polyurethane. I know some of the older burls that have the bark left on to dry are hard to clean up.
