my son recently needed a sword for a costume. I made this one out of 1/4 inch ash. I included a pattern and step by step for anyone wanting to try it out. I rounded over all edges and wrapped the handle in hockey tape. It is used to defeat many imaginary dragons, there seems to be alot in our neighbourhood. I think that is something the real estate agent should have disclosed.
I have always been wary of letting young children play with weapons, but my 10 year old boy is really into the whole knights and dragons thing so… I let him have this… with one condition. There is a 0 tolerance rule at our house for even pointing it at anything alive. If it hurts anyone, even by accident, it is automaticly bonfire starter.

Excellent project – too bad I can’t make one with my kids at the school where I teach. Lawsuits waiting to happen!

I did a couple of Bibleman swords for my kids this Fall. When they get older, it will be a catapult, and a Bow/Arrow. I have a rubber band gun in mind before long also. It’s fun being a kid again.
