This is my tribute to Frank, who helps me think outside the box, and influence from my love for Van Briggle pottery. This hollow form was turned from Bradford Pear. It measures 8” tall by 4” wide. It is finished with aniline turquoise blue dye, spray lacquer, and Briwax. All comments are welcome and appreciated.
Thanks Frank!

Not the socks blower as the red one, but who knew? Might have been. Keep experimenting, love it!

Inspiring as always Joe. Picked up a Sorby hollowing tool last week, but haven’t had a chance to play with it, this piece makes me want to head to the shop and turn something

The shape is nice but I’d like to see a bit more curve in the neck and body, just a few more degrees to accent the shape. It looks like you’re being careful on this one. Not as daring as your other work. Did you use only one color on this piece? I wonder what it would look like if you used 3 colors as you did with the apple red one. I like the turquoise blue, but would like to see more depth in the coloration. Nice work as always.

Thanks for all the feedback.
mmh, I agree with you on the shape and the color. The color is my first using aniline dyes. I ordered several colors the other day and am scheduled to take delivery on the 4th. I couldn’t wait though, I drove 50 miles on Wednesday and picked up the turquoise. This piece of pear had virtually no interesting grain to it. I really love the way the dye penetrates the wood. My next turquoise will be layered with red and black to give it the depth of color, similar to Van Briggle. I will also finish it in a hand rubbed matte to give it that buttery look.

That really looks nice. If I could stop running into spalted maple… I try dyeing some plain maple. I’m also looking forward into trying your liming technique.

Kerux, you should consider trying the aniline dye on the spalted maple. Some of the lighter colors such as yellow, red, and orange might give you some nice results. The black veining will show through. Thanks for the compliments.
