A Friend Asked me if I could build him a Pizza Spatula thingy. (His words I swear)
After I quit Laughing I said sure I could build a Pizza Peel. I had not built one before and went to the internet to
take a look at some basic shapes. The last photo is an oak peel that I made for him.
While searching for shapes I saw a few guitar shaped pizza peels and that got me thinking. My friend and I are both into music, and my local woodworking club had this friendly contest for our Christmas party.
Finally I had an idea to build for the contest. A Guitar Pizza Peel.
The rules were No more than four board feet of hardwood. 1”X6”X8’
I used curly maple for the body, Honduran Mahogany for the fret board, and a little Walnut for the sound hole.
2nd, there had to be a dowel, which I used a 1/4” dowel to give the body some added strength.
3rd, you had to use some form of brass. I used brass powder for the inlays.
And finally a 4th item of your choice. I added some turquoise around the sound hole.
I like Taylor Guitars so I made the head to look like a Taylor.
The neck and fret layout is pretty spot on to my real guitar, and the body was made to handle a 16” pizza.

It was alot of fun.
