The is one of the tallest pieces I have done to date. It measures 11” tall by 6.75” wide. The hollow form is turned from end grain Ginko. It is finished with General Finishes Seal-A-Cell, 6 coats of spray lacquer, and Briwax. I am really enjoying these hollow forms. All comments and feedback are welcome. Especially criticism, that’s how I learn.

Trifern I really like your vases their well balanced in size and shape. I really can’t find anything I don’t like about them. The only thing I might do is roll the inner edge of the rim.
Job well done

Great work mate! What are you using for a deep hollowing tool? It seems to work for you!

Joe, beautiful job! (as always) This has a really nice shape to it as well as the proportions.
I’ve not heard of Ginko before is it a hardwood? It looks a little like cherry. How does it compare to some of the other woods you’ve used?
Thanks for posting it.

Joe, this is another wonderful piece. It has nice balance and form and it looks pretty good as well. I really don’t know how you find the time to turn all of these and take care of things around the house. To tell the truth I am beginning to think that you must live in your shop. :)
Nice post!!!

Ginko is a hardwood and is the oldest living tree on the planet. There are fossils of Ginko’s dating back to the time of dinosaurs. They are a very slow growing tree. It turns beautifully.

Looks pretty nice-
Only thing you might want to do is vary the size on the top or the bottom. They look about the same size, and a smaller top OR smaller bottom would have changed the visual weight. Probably talking about 1/2” either way. By making them the same, they compete for attention.

I wouldn’t even consider trying to suggest how you could improve this. I think it is wonderful. I hope you have a lot of shelf space. You have turned some really nice stuff recently.

A lovely piece as usual. You have a great sense for form and your classic shapes are well executed. I would agree with RJ that if you roll the inner edge of the mouth to continue the sensuous curves you created in the rest of the piece, this will also make the thickness of the piece look thinner.
FYI: The fruit of the gingko is a delicacy and used in asian cuisine. The “nut” is harvested in the fall from the female trees and the outer flesh is smelly and soft but once removed it reaveals a football shape “nut” with a thin, hard shell. Remove the shell and cook in stir-fry or soups. It has a slightly sweet taste, the texture is a bit rubbery, but pleasant. The fruit is thought to promote long life and good memory.
You can also purchase dried gingo nuts and hydrate them to use, but fresh is a true delicacy.

Joe, another beautiful piece!
Curious, what is that you like about the Trent Bosch hollowers?

Ted, I like the Trent Bosch hollowing tools because:
The 5/8” shaft is small enough to do narrow openings, but large enough to still have substance.
The shafts are long enough to get fairly deep.
The shafts are stand alone so you can adjust the length in and out of the handle for better control.
They are easy to sharpen.
The tips are replaceable.
Probably the best reason is Trent personally taught me how to use them.
