I made this Cherry and Padauk tea box as a Christmas present for my Uncle. This box is approximately 9” x 7” x 4-1/2” and has been treated with 6 coats of General Finishes High-Performance Satin Polyurethane. The dividers are removable and this box can really be used for whatever he likes.

Nice box and colors. I’ve been wanting to try those invisible hinges. Are those “soss” brand? Do you like the way they function? good job.

I really like how you’ve edged that with the padauk. That’s really pretty!

That is a neat trick for concealing the end grain on the corners. I like that.

Hey Jim,
Yes, those are the Soss barrel hinges and they work great. The quality is excellent and I love that fact that they are hidden. These are for 1/2inch thick wood and the hole is made with a 10mm drill bit. If you are interested, here is a video:

Not only does it conceal the corners but I believe it also adds strength to the joints. If you want the plans on how I made, let me know and I will give you the PDF via dropbox.
