Really nice design Handi. What are the dimensions? Also, where do you get your 1/4” oak plywood? Every time I get it at the Big Box stores I am disappointed. The plies want to separate. Maybe it is the Florida humidity and the store being air conditioned combination.

If I’m not Mistaken it’s 10” Tall and about 4” Wide.

I got my Oak Plywood at Menards when I bought it while back, it was the only Place I could find Baltic Birch also.

If you get the ply Make sure it’s Not Laminate on a Core, make sure it’s Actual Ply like the Baltic Birch is, or you will have a Hard time doing these projects.

I went from Oak Plywood to Baltic cause the Oak I had, it splintered and blew out LOTS and just about everyone I done never survived the rest of the vibration and all.

Thanks Handi. I have been thinking about doing some gingerbreads and spandrels for older houses, and I’m having a hard time finding thin marine grade plywood locally. I get most of my hardwoods on-line as there are no more real lumberyards around here. Plywood might be a little pricey when shipping is considered. Any suggestions?

Well, I would try Menards, they have a Descent Selection of hardwoods, at least here at my Local Store, they have Oak, Maple, Mahogney and a few others. They also have the Oak and Baltic Birch Plywood in 2’x4” Sheets and the 4’x8’ sheets as well.

You may try useing www.woodfinder.com this is from what I heard, gives you a Wood Source close to you, or locates wood stores or whatnot that’s close to you. I’ve not used it yet, bit I hear alot of people using it over at The Wood Whisperer.

Rockler has some Precut usually at 12”x12” Squares of 1/8”, 1/4” 3/8” 1/2” and 3/4” Stock I belive, different prices. I think the last I checked it was about 1.89 a Sheet for 10+ sheets, it was cheaper getting it at Menards, but you have to deal with Warped projects and the like.

If you are careful you can get the warps out, by misting the bowed side, and letting it dry slowly, this will bring out the warp. Others suggest cutting a Dado in the middle of the bow about 1/4 the thickness of the wood, then pushing it down and running it again to open it back up, then putting an inlay in it basically, but only to the back so it’s not visible on the front.

Try them and see what you can come up with, that’s about all the resources I have, if I find anything else, i will be sure to send them your way, or post it in my blog
