I must have been a really good boy cause Santa brought me a brand new Steel City 17” drill press. I’ve been going to a retired friends house to use his for one specific project where I need a 6” hole bored into a 7” piece of wood. Steel City and Powermatic are the only 2 drills on the market that have a 6” quill travel and the powermatic is twice the price of the Steel City. It’s been on my wish list for a few months and my wife bought it for me! I think I’ll keep her.
The new drills have variable speed as opposed to the multiple belt/pulley speed settings that are on my friends drill. So far I like that change. Other than that I think everything else is the same.

Congrats. I think you will get a lot of use out of your new toy.

Check out the table I made for mine. I love it.

I don’t think you should be posting this as a project…

Sweet! Since you put it together it’s a project in my view.

ChipOffTheOldBlock, I posted it here because the instructions state,
“If it doesn’t fit the above description (like tool gloats & upgrades, wood gloats, projects in progress etc.),
either blog it or post it in an appropriate forum.”
This is clearly a tool gloat/upgrade.
Keep calm and make saw dust!

Those are nice drill presses, but I agree it should not be posted as a project.

I posted it here because the instructions state,
“If it doesn’t fit the above description (like tool gloats & upgrades, wood gloats, projects in progress etc.),
either blog it or post it in an appropriate forum.”

Read that again. The part in parentheses are examples of things that are not projects and should be posted as a blog or in a different forum.

Oops! My bad. Thanks for pointing that out JayT. I missunderstood, ChipOffTheOldBlock. Guess I have to learn how to blog!
