Sooooo this fall we went to the Turn for the Troops at the local Woodcrafters. My daughter and I made pens, and sweet hubby had some Christmas inspiration. For Christmas he gave me a lathe and a pen-making kit. I finally had a chance to take it for a test drive Friday. Here are my first efforts. Sweet hubby did manage to squeeze in and make himself a fat pen, too!

Good to see you getting into turning. I bought a lathe but it’s not been on the top of my list as I’m needing to sharpen my new lathe tools.

Nice and fun….ctional! LOL!

I tried my hand at making a candle holder. Went pretty good, until I broke the belt on the lathe.

Congrats on the new tool. Looks like you are off to a great start.

Warning…pen making is addicting :)

Enjoy your new lathe.

He just left to get two! While I wait, I’m making him some clam chowder.

Well now there is something interesting. Motion Industries does not have an after market belt for this lathe. If they don’t have one it can only mean there is not one available. Rockler says they can’t ship one till 17 March…. Three months for a belt, really????

Call the store in Atlanta. The manager tracked one down for me and has it on the way.

Moral of the story…Rockler Atlanta is great….Rockler corporate…not so much.

Do you have an auto parts place close? When you get the new belt, see if they have a similar one. Sometimes it works? I also go to my friendly large ACE as they carry all sorts of farm machinery parts. Yep I live rural.LOL!
