Well, the base of this is wood, plywood and particle board to be exact. I sold the other clock I had posted so I built this one to take it’s place. I cut 3 circles on my bandsaw circle cutter and after cutting out another circle from the middle of two of them, I glued them one on top of the other and trimmed them even with the router table and a pattern bit. I rounded the top edge with a round over bit and relieved the bottom edge of the circles. I sewed the carving leather to the chap leather(the dark leather) and then glued them to the face of the clock. I then pulled the chap leather over the sides and glued it down. I carved the face and added the band around the edge. The last thing was the upholstery tacks. The movement and hands are from WoodCraft. It was necessary to remove almost all the wood behind the leather to make room for the clock works.

Hi Thomas;
I feel horrible.
It should be illegal for someone with your talent, should ever have slow times. Or empty pockets for that matter.
Maybe we have to wait to get to heaven for things done by hand, to be appreciated.
I’m glad to see you didn’t forget everything you knew, before taking the summer off from the shop!
You are a true Master.
Lee

Gee Grumpy, about 40 years. LOL I’d say the actual carving time was about 3 hours. The rest was scattered over a couple days so I lost track for all of it.

You’ve inspired me to get out the leather carving tools. I’ll need lots of practice to come close to your skill.
Wonderful work.

Anyone want to buy a set of leather tools? I just saw how inadequate my stuff is…
Thomas, I can’t add anything that anyone else hasn’t already said. I think Lee and Charlie really summed things up. Great project!
