This maple hollow form is from a friends tree that was cut down a couple of weeks ago. There were sad to have it removed. Hopefully I can make them a remembrance piece to ease their pain. It measures 6” tall by 3” wide. It is finished with wipe-on poly and Briwax. All comments are welcome and appreciated.

Very Nice Joe – you’ve done a great job on this, are you going to give this to them or make another? I imagine a branch of orchids coming out of this, or other flower arrangment. How deep did you go into piece when you hollowed it out? Can you make it waterproof to hold fresh cut flowers?

Thanks guys.
Dan it is hollowed down 5.75” with wall thickness ranging from an 1/8” to 3’16th”. I may be pretentious, but the only thing I envisioned it holding is your attention.

Joe, this is a beautiful vase. You are not being presumptuous about the vase. It should be put in a display case with no distractions from its form and appearance.
As always, another project that “turned” out well.

You’re right Joe , it is an eye catching piece all by itself . No need for any distractions at all . The shape is wonderful and the wood is beautiful …what more could you ask for ?
Was it actually dry enough to apply finish to after just being cut down a couple weeks ago ? No fear of cracks developing ?

I agree with Woodworm, this much better than one below par…a “hole in one” for sure!
Joe, this is great! I love the contrast in the maple…and the knot adds character.
Thanks for posting it.
