Oregon Big Leaf Maple Burl Cigar pen, in platinum.
Look at the swirly burly grain on this beauty! Acer macrophyllum, the largest of the maples, found mostly in the Pacific Northwest, is highly figured, used widely in woodworking, and can even be used for syrup – though the flavor is different than that of the more commonly used Acer saccharum, sugar maple.
The wood, from Karson’s stash via the Pen Turners Swap, round two, is sanded, buffed and finished with several coats of walnut oil and high build friction polish.
This is the 14th item in my 30 day project/challenge
& auction.

Scott Glad you were able to make a great looking pen from that maple. It’s superb.
