So, I made this for my neice & nephew-in-law for Christmas. Realizing that she’s an adult now, and needed an adult gift, I threw this together in a couple hours on Christmas Eve. XD

I’d like to say that the natural edge was an attempt at making a rustic, yet contemporary piece that would not only appeal to their small town southern roots, but also their young, modern taste. In honesty, I just ran out of time and thew together something with no time and nothing but scraps…because I’m a terrible uncle.

Just a hunk-o-maple with walnut feet. Finished with spray lacquer.

Thanks for looking. Comments appreciated.

Merry Christmas!

I like this. It does have a rustic/natural quality—it’s also kinda contemporary/minimalist —for some reason it makes me think of Nakashima a little. This is a nice gift and you did a good job on it. What was your process? I assume you used a bandsaw to rough cut and then sanded or planed the face flat and smooth? At first I thought there was a piece of veneer and then I realized that you smoothed the faced very well.

Have your say...
