I thought I’d give pen turning a try. I ordered a starter kit from Penn State Industries and just started turning away. These are a few of the ones I’ve completed. From left to right – Brazilian Cherry pencil, Lace Wood Pen and Pencil, Wenge Pen, and the last one I have no idea what type of wood it was. I found a piece of it here in the shop and I thought I’d see what it looked like. It turns great, it’s kind of oily, I didn’t really need to sand it any, it cut so clean and smooth, and while I was turning it, it let off an almost cinnamon smell. If you know what it might be let me know.

Beautifully turned wooden pens. You did great job Chris!
The last two (left to right) – I like most. How much U$ can make you let it go?

Nice pens. I turned a couple for the first time last weekend.(see the link http://lumberjocks.com/topics/5230 )
Now I’m hooked! Was wondering about what your initial investment cost.

I found a website that I have registered with for pen supplies. If you register they e-mail you monthly specials. I have purchased many pen kits from them.
