With all the Bubinga cutoffs I had left over from my bathroom counter project, I had do something. So, for starters, I made this Christmas decoration. I wish I could say the idea was original, but its not. (Thank you Peter Brown.) The wood is Bubinga and the inlay is copper wire. I free-hand routed shallow channels for pieces of copper wire, glued them in and sanded it flush. (Safety warning! After sanding anything with metal, don’t be tempted to touch it until it’s cooled. It gets pretty hot after sanding. Just ask my finger.) Finished the whole thing with Danish oil and a couple coats of wipe-on polyurethane. (I’m really starting to like that stuff.)
