Arts and Crafts Mantle Clocks

Project by Douglas Bordner posted 812 days ago 866 views 6 times favorited 21 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Here are a pair of another design. I did the faces in Illustrator. They are both in quarter-sawn white oak with a catalyzed lacquer finish. The feet and bracket are macassar ebony on the first clock, and ebonized maple on the second. Clockface font is Sho Roman an Adobe font. Ornaments are Arts and Crafts Ornaments from crafthome.com.

Again, wonderful pieces and I think doing your own faces is really great. I really like that idea. What do you print the faces out on if you don’t mind me asking?

Doug a another pair of great clock.

You can never have too many clocks except when daylight saving time rolls around.

Chip, they are printed at Kinko’s on a color copier on gloss cardstock, then coated with Krylon.

Very nice Doug. I like the designs you put in the corners on the faces, as well as the font choice. When you say Illustrator, do you mean Adobe’s product?

Jeff, I’d guess yes….

but what font is that? Doesn’t look like one of the ones that came with my mac, or any of the software I’ve picked up.

Yes to Adobe Illustrator . The clock face on the left uses Sho Roman, an Adobe font. I can’t remember what the numerals are on the right clock. The ornaments are fonts, too. Arts and Crafts Ornaments designed by Dard Hunter and sold by Crafthome.com. Beware of that site unless you have a ton of money. They have great stuff, and I have adapted designs from the hugh amount of crafts there.

I’m not going to start another tag line, Doug, but next to my love for small boxes, comes my appreciation for small clocks. LOL

I realize it’s been said, though not for some time, but I think it’s really cool that you designed the faces! Nice cases too! Faces in cases.

Just came across ths looking for a clock project for this weekend (because I’m too lazy to start my son’s bed yet) – Very nice! Where did you get the movement and hands? Beautiful job on the face!

JC,
Thanks for the kudos, nice to receive a pat on a doldrum woodworking day in frigid January when it’s too cold to crank up the shop. Clock movements are from http://www.klockit.com/.

All the clocks were adapted from clocks shown at www.crafthome.com, an excellent source of inspiration for A&C household furnishings. Spendy stuff there – beware of letting your decorator see the link.
