I just got into woodworking this year and know pretty much nothing. So I am starting with easy to make things.I designed this feeder with a top to it so I could put oranges and things out for the baltimore orioles and pretty much all the other birds around here go to the main platform and the goldfinch love the niger hangers.I was pretty pleased with my end results and the birds were too.

Nice feeder. It’s open so you have a chance to get a good look at your dinner guests.
If you have Squirrels wrap a piece of 4” aluminum dryer duct around your post near the top.
Keep em comming.

Thanks for the tip Bob#2.The squirrels can’t get at this one but I have a smaller feeder that I bought and they empy it almost as soon as I fill it.I will give the dryer duct a try on this one.

DustyGirl.
I have two separate feeders for the squirrels and it seems to work out just fine once they figure out whose station is whose.
This one feeds all my birds:

Very nicely done, Dusty! Keep up the good orignal work, too. Another way to keep squirrels out of your feeder if it hangs is to use an old cooking pot top. Just remove the screw-on handle and thread the hanger through the hole. Then use a hose clamp to secure it at the desired height.
The dryer vent works good on posts, though. Happy feeding!

You put a lot of work in these. I sometimes feel silly spending so much time on bird houses, but I really enjoy them. Thanks for the validation, your’s are outstanding.

Dustygirl – love all your bird houses and feeders. Bet the birds and squirrels love them also. Have to post this picture on why my bird feeders were not working at my house. Although after Tigger and I talked about him being in the feeder – he has not made it a seek and destroy station anymore and none of the other birdhouses and feeders are by anything he can climb. I am going to borrow some of your ideas.

Thanks Roz and Larry. I have my feeders high enough that the cats can’t get up to them. It’s nice to know that someone actually wants to use my ideas. :-)
