Beautiful work Tri. Those are great looking bowls. How did you make the walls inside like that?

The shape of the bowl is beautiful. I like the idea of the carving, very unique. I wonder if you could make the carved are more prominant by either staining the bowl and sanding it down to give a contrast between the carved grooves and the surface (or stain the carved grooves only), OR giving more definition to the carved area by carving out thicker lines such as the center stem areas. More of a 3-D effect. Otherwise it’s an excellent turning as usual.

Another great one . . . however why “Q”?
Is it a reference to Star Trek?

The story behind Q:
I was given some really nice wood a couple of weeks ago by a friend. I asked him how much I owed him. He said that I owed him nothing. Then he looked at me and said, “What I would really like is for you to turn a hollow form vessel for my brother. The wood came from his tree.” I was surprised and honored at the same time because this person is an accomplished turner himself. In fact, he mentored me early on. Their last name begins with “Q” and I wanted to preserve their anonymity. The carving was inspired from the “Q” branch of the family tree.

Joe, thanks for the post and the story behind it. This is a new “turn” in your work and I really appreciate the visual interest that the carving gives to this piece.
Well done!!

Joe, I really like what you’re doing with your carvings on your bowls. This is really sweet!
I was wondering how thin the walls are on this one? It looks like your getting this “turning green” process down pretty good.
Thanks for posting it.
