Ebonised chest of drawers, made for a client. All the dovetails were hand-cut.

Really nice!

What type of wood did you use and how did you ebonize it?

Damn fine, Mr Rhodes. It stands out on the general projects page because it’s so elegantly simple, with good proportions. I hope your client appreciates that you’ve made something very special for them.

Thanks, I do prefer the chest in these photos. However the client who is an interior designer decided to paint the interior of the drawers pink, and have the exterior of the drawers sprayed black. I think it ruined the piece, as you can no longer see the dovetails. Oh well…

The timber is Oak, and I used a few different dyes and stains, I forgot which ones but they were mainly black and brown. You can’t really tell from these studio shots, but the finish is a very dark brown, and the grain can still be seen a bit.

Yeah, this really stood out for me too. Looking at the dovetails, I guess the bottoms are held by slips instead of grooves? Did you need any support int the middle of the drawer?

Also, I love those pulls. Can you tell us where you got them?

I think from memory they did need a centre muntin, but I may be wrong. The pulls were from OCHREhttp://ochre.net/products/handles-accessories but be warned they cost about $125 each.

$125! Why am I cursed with champagne taste and a baloney budget?
