I believe boxes like this are called a “valet box” meant to hold pocket contents from a man’s trousers at the end of a day. Can anyone confirm this? I made this one, with a sliding dovetailed lid, out of some beautiful Rosewood I had in the shop. Finish is simple clear wax buffed on a felt wheel system. Hope you enjoy it?

Nice box. I really like the idea of the sliding lid.

I think you have the term right. I have heard of these being called a valet before. Great shine on this and it makes a nice contrast to the non buffed interior. Well done.

Beautiful!
I have two questions: Is the dovetail straight or tapered? I have had some of my dovetail boxes get loose in fit with the seasons. Have you considered using a dark wax to augment pore fill?
