Have not done this in years. Just thought I’d give it a shot as we’re considering adding some burning to some of our projects. Don’t be afraid to tell me it stinks or better yet – how to do a better job.

It looks great. Perhaps needs to be a little darker

I think it needs to be darker also, in some areas. The lighter tones look okay, but you should add more contrast by adding shaddows and more visuial intrest. The outside lines of the horse are too defined and the lines need to be converted from lines to shaddow. Don’t be shy about going darker on your work. Most of my work has portions that are, what I call, absolute black. I burn as dark as I can to add more visuial intrest. What kind of wood did you use? The background looks busy and I can’t tell if it is the wood or if it is burned.
Keep burning, and i look forward to seeing more of your work.

Thank You both for the tips. This was just done on an old scrap of QS Sycamore. Kind of didn’t expect anything to show so up that was half way close to what I had in mind.
Looked over some of your burnings… Wow! I’ve got a ways to go.
