As a small part of a gift, my wife gave me a beer bottle opener that mounts to the wall. (Shaped like a bulldog’s face since I am a big Mississippi State sports fan. The first thing I tried to do was find a place to mount it near the micro-fridge in my basement (a.k.a. – The Guy Room). Not wanting to mount it to the sheetrock, and not wanting to damage the fridge trying to screw it to the side, I decided that I needed a wooden box around the fridge that I could attach it to.
For about a year, the micro-fridge in the basement was becoming a countertop for multiple things, ranging from a liquor dispensor, to coasters, and more. So the need for something to attach the bottle opener to, then became the need for a bar around the fridge to provide more counter space as well. This then created the need to buy a router, a new table saw, build a workbench for the garage to have somewhere to work, and the list goes on. In designing the bar with help from my father (an engineer), I decided that I also needed some shelves to keep my pint glass collection, and that those shelves should probably be lighted to display them all. (All because of a little bottle opener).
So I set out to build my first project since I used to help out in my father’s shed as a kid. The result is a great little bar with counter space up top, a micro-fridge set in underneath, lighted shelves for glasses, and a bulldog bottle opener sitting on top… still not mounted.

I think you solved a lot of problems, garnered some new toys…er make that tools, and created a great looking piece of furniture; and like you said, all over a little bottle opener.

In hind sight, I think it would have looked even better with a stain, but I actually used a paint. I took a shelf from another piece of furniture in the room (TV stand) to Home Depot and had them match the color.

Skip, Welcome to LumberJocks. That little bottle opener spawned quite the project. The outcome looks good, though. Sure those new tools will get put to use on some other projects.
