This was an old solid cutting block from my grandmas house that she just threw out for firewood. The block was about 2’ by 3’ and a foot thick, it was heavy! I saw it and immediately picked it up to save. A guy named Guy made it for her over 35 years ago and it was literally black from years of use. I spent about two days sanding off all of the wear and cut marks on it and found a gem hidden inside. It had a giant crack and two holes drilled through it to stop it from splitting. I plugged the holes and crack and built legs and a towel rack for it. I had an giant piece of cherry from an old mantle that I cut up to make the legs. I then finnished it with a mineral oil/ beeswax mix so it would be food safe. It was a good two weeks of work but it was all free reused wood that turned out beautiful. I wanted to keep it for myself but as soon as I showed it off I got an offer I couldn’t refuse. I hope I get another chance like this for something to keep.
