This was an old solid cutting block from my grandmas house that she just threw out for firewood. The block was about 2’ by 3’ and a foot thick, it was heavy! I saw it and immediately picked it up to save. A guy named Guy made it for her over 35 years ago and it was literally black from years of use. I spent about two days sanding off all of the wear and cut marks on it and found a gem hidden inside. It had a giant crack and two holes drilled through it to stop it from splitting. I plugged the holes and crack and built legs and a towel rack for it. I had an giant piece of cherry from an old mantle that I cut up to make the legs. I then finnished it with a mineral oil/ beeswax mix so it would be food safe. It was a good two weeks of work but it was all free reused wood that turned out beautiful. I wanted to keep it for myself but as soon as I showed it off I got an offer I couldn’t refuse. I hope I get another chance like this for something to keep.

One solid piece for the top? Man, I don’t know that I would have sold that. You don’t find that kind of stuff anymore.

I dont imagine anyone could have come up with a big enough offer if that was MY grandmothers and it came out as nice as that.

But then again, if someone just started laying hundred dollar bills on the table and said “Say when” ... I’d probably give in ...

That thing is BEAUTIFUL !
