An other bowl, this one is made from a Alder base and Maple segments with darker wood that I have no clue what it is. It’s dark coco almost black with a open grain. It turns nice but a bit brittle. Any ideas? thanks If I know what it is, I would buy more as it is great looking wood.

My guess would be wenge. It fits the criteria you’ve listed and looks like it to me.
