Project Information
I've built a number of shadow tables for Air Force retirees, but this was the first console table I attempted. Most of it is made from solid cherry, with a 1/2" lower shelf built from plywood with solid banding on the ends. The top is built with mitered lap joints and is attached via hinges on the back. Most of the structural joints were made with a Domino joiner.
The recipient, as a retiring First Sergeant, wanted the flag box to resemble the diamond in the middle of the rank, so I built it to match the angles and size required. The center baffle can be removed if a larger flag is installed.
After extensive work, UPS broke it in transit. I spent another month working with the recipient as well as the local UPS office to get them to honor the insured amount and repair the damage. They broke 2 of my projects going to the west coast within a couple weeks of each other; I must have gotten some bad handlers.
