This took about an hour to make today. Earlier this year I passed a felled cottonwood tree with a “free wood” sign on the curb. I had some of the logs stacked on a pallet in the garage, big mistake, think pestilence. Then came the spiders, lots of spiders! This stuff reminds me of my grandmother’s farm in the summer time, I had forgotten what it smells like. Jogged some great memories I had as a boy turned loose in the Idaho country side. This block is about ten inches in diameter, which will be just about right for my small carving projects. Legs are just from a mop handle splayed at 15 degrees. I chopped in a back stop but forgot to incorporate a V notch for better work holding. I think this will be a step up from that short crotched shop log I have been using. I would next like to make a horizontal chopping horse to make use of the cottonwood.
Thanks for looking.
