I made a few lazy susans for christmas presents for relatives using some veneer inlay purchased through Matt at inlay banding.com. His inlay is outstanding and thicker (and much more forgiving of mistakes) than what you can get through Rockler or Woodcraft.
My wife liked the finished product so much that she wanted me to make one for her.
So I decided to cut the compass rose out myself through the technique P. Michael Henderson had posted here in the past. I used Padauk and Maple. The Padauk was a PITA but is beautiful when finished. The outside edges of some of the rose points were sloppy so I cut some walnut strips to accent and cover them.
I’m fairly happy with the final result.
