Start of Koa Wood Hall Table

Project by savannah505 posted 370 days ago 804 views 1 time favorited 11 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Hi to all – I’ve been absent for awhile on posting anything, but have been busy. I started a koa wood hall table recently, and thought I’d show you the stages it’s in. I started shooting polyurethane tonight, and the incredible beauty of the koa veneer is something I couldn’t wait to share. The legs are solid koa, the top which I’m not showing is already done, and is Volga Blue granite. I want to show more than 3 pictures on a posting, but don’t know how to do this, I would appreciate help from anyone on this. I will do two postings to show more pictures. I have about 12 coats of poly to go, and will sand between each. This first set of pictures show the applying of one of the pieces of veneer on a side, the attachment of the legs, and the piece finish sanded ready for shooting with poly.

Looking good, Dan. The table legs are very elegant. I look forward to seeing more. Especially the Volga Blue Granite. Thanks for sharing.

Dan,

The grain in the koa is absolutely beautiful (on your other posting especially).

Here’s a video tutorial that Martin made to help with posting blogs. If you can watch it, you can apply the same methods to adding photos in the project commentary as well. I hope it will be helpful to you.

I look foward to seeing your table finished.

Hey Dan, Very, Very nice!!! The Koa is beautiful. I really like the design. Did you design this piece? I’m looking forward to seeing the finished piece. It’s been awhile sence you last posted a project. I see why now, you have been working on this piece. I really like the style of the legs, & how they tie in with the radius apron. It kind of reminds me of the Federal style. Thanks for posting.

Hey Dennis and to all who’ve commented – I actually haven’t been working that much on this, but I’m glad you like it, and the granite top I have for it, is just KILLER!!!!! Yes, all of my work is my own design, thanks for the comment, and this Koa is so rare, it’s my old growth that I picked up back in the mid 80’s. I have 3-1/2 consecutive pieces left that are 11 inches wide by 10 feet long, and just super figured.

I can’t wait to see it all. As far as posting more than 3 pictures, put it as a blog entry instead of a project entry, then you can use 6 pictures. Then when it is all done you can place 3 pictures of the finished project here at the project entry’s. I hope this helps.
PEACE!!!

Dan, The table looks great. The design is awesome! Would like to know where you got the Koa and, if you just cannot think of any other project to use for it, you can send it my way! lol. The figure in Koa is just fantastic.
Great job so far. Can’t wait to see it when it’s done.
