The last “Presidents Challenge” for 2014 in my local turners club (Baltimore Area Turners) was to make a Christmas ornament. I got into the spirit and made a few more than the required one.
To put the sizes in perspective, the longest one (second from the right) is just under 10” long. In order, they are: -an acorn made from walnut and spalted maple -the two multicolored ones are made from many scraps of exotic wood scraps I laminated together and turned, then added holly finials -figured maple body with insert made from cherry and walnut, paduak ends, and ebony finials -paduak, walnut and maple with walnut finials
There were several others, but they were given away before I took this picture.
Happy Holidays to all my fellow Lumberjocks!
-- Once in awhile I make something really great. Most days I just make sawdust.
