Alright, this is one more of my personal projects i made for my wife last valentines day. After this i will only post my new work. Hopefully for my wife’s sake i will have some photos of a new fire place in a couple months that at this time is still only in my head.

This box was made out of maple/birds’s eye and purple heart. there’s not a single nail in this box and only minimal clamping was done since it wasnt really practical with the size and number of pieces. which meant there was a lot of gluing and holding. The heart pieces were made by gluing an 1/8th inch piece of maple over an 1/8 inch peice of purple heart, rough cutting the shape with a band saw, then with a file and some sandpaper shaping the heart until only a border of purple heart was exposed. i wasnt really sure about the placement of them but i already spent the time making them so i had to use them.

Nice design, and particularly nice wood layout. You make the maple and purple heart combination work together in harmony for a composed, balanced appearance. Tastefully done.

This is an awesome box.
I really like the way you chose certain areas of purple heart to be exposed-well done.

Thanks for sharing.

thanks everyone for the comments, i appreciate it. Its nice to get such positive feedback from people who actually understand the time and effort that goes into the projects we build. And though i am nowhere near the skill level i want to be or that many of you are at, i think hanging around this board is going to help get me one step closer.

Welcome to LJ’s , and thank You for the post.
Beautiful job on this box, and as you know, the work is a bit sweeter when the project is for someone near and dear.
Great blending of woods, grain and colors on this piece.
I for one am looking forward to your next post.
