Custom Art Desk

this was a custom build that I auctioned for charity. The build itself was just for me to build the winning builder something they wanted. This was probably my most complicated project to date. It is meant to me used for multiple art disciplines including painting, drawing, carving, modeling and mosaic.
the desk is 8’ long when in the extended state but can be shortened to 5’ when desired by placing the end stand under the center desk and using the connecting bridge between them.
Most of the features are shown in the pictures. I tried several new things (new to me), such as the shelf supports and tilt mechanism for the table. Both support cabinets are on wheels to help in changing the setup, but I placed covers over them to make it look more like furniture and less industrial.
The overall size made this a two man project more often than not as so many parts were to large for one person to assemble, but there was usually someone around willing to help out (including the customer who really helped a lot).

Wow, this is one great looking and very practical art desk. Wouldn’t mind building one like this for myself. Well done!

A really nice piece. I am an artist and a woodworker & that is well done.

Thank you for the compliments, I was happy with the final product. We had to re-design on the fly but luckily we caught the problems before they bit us. I enjoyed the chalenge but I’m glad it’s a one of a kind for me.

Hi as a previous apprentice architect I would have been proud, no, honoured to have this as my work station, as a now woodsmith I appreciate your creativity & would still be honoured to use this as a desk to sketch up my project designs.
