FINALLY got my hands on some walnut. MWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA. This is my second attempt at a baby rattle. I used walnut, gravel from outside and the lines are burns. My sister-in-law said it was particularly important that this be a baby-friendly toy, and I am happy to say it is. This little dude is totally mouth ready.

I started out turning the basic shape of the rattle, then cut off the top section of the “rattle” part, hollowed it out and put the top back on after putting in a few pebbles. I hid the seam with one of the burn marks. The seam is in the top-most of the top three circles.

Looks cool. Ilove the way walnut smells when turning. I did a baby rattle and put it on here earlier this year. I did mine by laminating three long pieces together. In the middle piece, you just drill large holes for the rattle material and then glue up all three pieces. Probably more nerving that way because you are always worrying about cutting too deep.

Very clever hiding the seam that way. The Baby will love it
